Enjoy yoga sessions overlooking the sunrise and sunset at the MBS SkyPark

Did you know that out of the eight in 10 adults in Singapore who said they were happy in a survey, 93% of them defined happiness as being healthy?

Meanwhile, 96% of respondents shared that being active had a positive impact on them — mentally, physically and emotionally.

The respondents said being active helps relieve stress and brings about relaxation, leaving them energised, refreshed while keeping their emotions in check. Exercise also makes them feel stronger physically.

These were some of the findings of a recent study titled “Live Happily Ever Active” conducted by international fitness chain Virgin Active.

Julien Bera, Singapore country director of Virgin Active, says, “Virgin Active believes in enabling happiness through activeness and we want to empower Singaporeans to find their happiness. Many studies have shown that when people are keeping active, they generally enjoy positive mental health. This is especially necessary in today’s environment. It is very heartening to see that people in Singapore have found the means to keep themselves active and happy.”

“At Virgin Active, we don’t want to simply focus on physical health. We want to help everyone who walks through our doors find a balance between rest, wellness and exercise,” adds Bera.

As gyms reopen, albeit with masks still required to be on, and people in Singapore are more than excited to get back on their fitness routine, Virgin Active is rolling out new initiatives to help people find their happiness through activeness.

One such initiative is the elevated yoga experience SkyPark Yoga by Virgin Active at Marina Bay Sands (MBS). From July 20, Virgin Active together with MBS will be hosting 16 45-minute yoga classes weekly at 6.45am and 6.30pm to catch the sunrise and sunset.

Options had the chance to experience this class 57 stories up in the air, overlooking some of Singapore’s most iconic buildings and blue waters.

Although yoga is not a workout I am used to and did struggle a fair bit during class, the scenery and view more than made up for the difficulty in holding a pose. Virgin Active’s head of yoga Rashita Banu led the class through a 45-minute Vinyasa flow class, encouraging us to patiently breathe into our poses and take our time to familiarise ourselves with each pose.

As much as I felt that I had a good stretch and workout, which left me feeling relaxed and energised, the view was what really caught my breath. The most memorable part of the class was when we were in a Savasana pose (corpse pose), just lying down in total relaxation and true bliss, gazing at the sky above as it transforms from a deep blue to pink and orange hues. It was truly a remarkable experience.

To ensure a fully immersive experience for all, every participant of SkyPark Yoga will be equipped with a set of professional wireless headphones. These headphones will enable them to receive crystal-clear instructions as though the yoga teacher is right beside them, even if they are at the back of the class.

For an added post-yoga treat, all participants will be entitled to 15% off at MBS’s signature patisserie Origin + Bloom located at Hotel Tower 3. Yogis simply have to show their yoga session confirmation email over the counter to enjoy discounts on the patisserie’s daily selection of fresh bakes, sandwiches and salads, desserts and coffee. This discount is only applicable on the day of the yoga session.

Each yoga session is priced at $30 for the public, $20 for Sands Rewards LifeStyle members and $15 for existing Virgin Active members. Public booking is available through MBS’s SkyPark Yoga webpage or Virgin Active’s website.

“Virgin Active prides itself on creating irresistible exercise experiences and inspiring people to live an active life. Our partnership with MBS is one way for all to enjoy what Virgin Active has to offer and showcase our belief in ‘Live Happily Ever Active’. This is regardless of whether one is in our club, at home or in a park streaming our live and on-demand workouts, or simply enjoying our curated experiences. We would love to enable an active spirit and empower Singapore residents to find their happiness wherever it takes them,” says Bera.
