Hugo Boss and Olympic gold medallist Joseph Schooling launch a new capsule collection

SINGAPORE (May 14): The entire nation was brought to a standstill when Joseph Schooling won Singapore’s first-ever gold medal, in the 100m butterfly race, at the 2016 Olympics. Recently appointed as the brand ambassador for Hugo Boss, Schooling appears in a series of advertising print campaigns for the brand. In April, he launched a limited-edition capsule collection, consisting of a polo shirt, tee shirt, shorts, bag and towel. The items come in classic shades of blue and yellow — a nod towards water and the gold medal. Fifteen per cent of the proceeds from the sales of the capsule collection will go towards the Schooling Sports Academy — an initiative that aims to raise the level of sports in Singapore and support aspiring athletes in achieving sporting excellence. The collection will be available at the reopening of the Boss store at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, at which Schooling will make an appearance.

From city to country

Kim Jones, men’s artistic director of Louis Vuitton, has created a look for the global traveller, from bustling cities such as Hong Kong and New York to the quieter areas of the Himalayas. The fall/winter 2018 pre-collection covers formal suits, jeans and knitwear and features fabrics such as Japanese seersucker silk and denim. Prints featuring playing card motifs and dice inject fun into the collection.

Small is trendy

From oversized sunglasses, designers have now gone to the other extreme. Smaller frames have graced the faces of models on the runways and fashionistas. The inspiration is the 1990s, with the styles worn in the movie The Matrix especially striking. The smaller shades lend a sporty vibe. We love this one by Giorgio Armani.

Comfortable walk

New Balance SD 750’s classic sandals are perfect for a day out and about running errands, from grocery shopping to picking up the kids from school. The minimalist design offers easy-on and easy-off options. The sandals come in shades of black, white and blue and cost $109. Available at authorised retailers.

Classic style meets innovation

The new Hybrid Manufacture by Frederique Constant combines Swiss-made fine mechanical watchmaking with smartwatch functionality. It is equipped with a new, patented FC-750 calibre that is developed, produced and assembled in-house and combines mechanical and electronical components. Connected via Bluetooth, the Hybrid app is accessible via a pusher button and includes activity tracking, sleep monitoring, dynamic coach, analytics for the timepiece’s mechanical movement (including rate, amplitude and beat error) and world timer.

Modern interpretation

Cartier’s new Santos de Cartier watch stays true to its original philosophy by reflecting the innovative, ever-changing spirit of its own age. Its unchanged square shape echoes the refinement and symmetry of Parisian geometry of the era, as in the four angular corners of the Eiffel Tower. The Santos de Cartier’s bezel now features sleeker lines while being precisely weighted and measured to optimise comfort and ergonomics for a perfect fit. The new strap can be tailored to suit any occasion depending on the choice of materials and colours. Straps are available in steel, gold, calfskin or alligator skin, and all versions are interchangeable, thanks to the Cartier QuickSwitch system.
