Ball Watch Co unveils the Engineer Hydrocarbon Submarine Warfare Chronograph for the adventure seeker

SINGAPORE (Aug 19): Ball Watch Co is known for timepieces that possess extreme durability and high legibility, suitable for those who have an active lifestyle. The Engineer Hydrocarbon Submarine Warfare Chronograph is what you need to tell the time in poor lighting conditions.

The timepiece is equipped with an elapsed time mechanism through the 18 to 19 micro gas tubes on the hands and dial. The hour markers on the dial are constructed of elevated baton-style micro gas tubes of different sizes and colours for a bright look, while all the hands also feature the legendary self-powered tubes.

The watch features the Amortiser, a patented anti-shock system used to protect the movement from shocks. The patented crown protection can withstand extreme weather conditions.

The stainless steel case with ceramic bezel

The watch has a Swiss automatic mechanical movement, the Ball RR1402. On the 42mm dial, the day and date are displayed side by side at the three o’clock position. There are two versions of the Submarine Warfare Chronograph — titanium case with a stainless steel bezel; and stainless steel case with a ceramic bezel. In the former, the case is carved from a block of titanium and the watch has a titanium steel or stainless steel bracelet.

Elevated baton-style micro gas tubes on the dial provide high legibility in the dark

Divers especially will appreciate the 60-minute graduations and a micro gas tube inset to measure elapsed time. Super-LumiNova on the ceramic model gives added luminosity. Deep dives are made possible with a water resistance of 300m.

The Submarine Warfare Chronograph has undergone intense testing and meets Ball Watch’s accuracy standards for diving or exploring rugged terrain.

How it all began

To fully appreciate the timepieces from Ball Watch, we need to look into its past. The company was established in 1891 — not in Switzerland like most watch brands, but in Cleveland, Ohio in the US. The watch of an engineer had stopped, causing a disastrous train accident. This prompted railroad engineers to want a timepiece that could synchronise time in various cities to prevent another tragedy.

They turned to Webb C Ball, a jeweller and watchmaker in Ohio who had founded the Ball Watch Co, to help make timepieces that were accurate and reliable. The company has been credited with creating the world’s first mechanical movement that includes a day and date function with a 24-hour time zone display
