Blancpain dives into its archives for a special edition Fifty Fathoms Barakuda Only Watch 2019.
(July 24): One of Blancpain’s standout new watches of 2019, the Fifty Fathoms Barakuda is a reinterpretation of a dive watch from the 1960s. During that time, Blancpain had been supplying its epochal Fifty Fathoms watches to military units from different countries, including the German Bundesmarine. The Fifty Fathoms Barakuda is a remake of a made-for-civilian model that arose out of the partnership with the German Bundesmarine.
For Only Watch 2019, the piece-unique is accented by blue luminescent hands and markers, and the Only Watch and Blancpain logos on the caseback. Naturally, the sporty retro vibe is strong, as the Fifty Fathoms Barakuda replicates the original’s design elements such as rectangular hour markers, large date window, and broad hands against a jet-black dial and unidirectional bezel with domed sapphire insert.
Being a Fifty Fathoms dive watch, the performance specs are unequivocally top-notch, promising water resistance to 300m, and powered by a double-barrel automatic movement with 100-hour power reserve. Here’s to the watch powering up its auction value at Only Watch 2019 to benefit research against muscular dystrophy.
