SINGAPORE (June 11): This year, Franck Muller launches three maritime-inspired timepieces: Crazy Hours 15th Anniversary Asia Exclusive, Vanguard 7 Days Power Reserve Skeleton and Vanguard Yachting Gravity Skeleton. The most outstanding of the dynamic collection is the latter, an eye-catching piece that features a blue futuristic turbine-shaped tourbillon cage as well as a 21.2mm Gravity tourbillon cage with blue marine accents. The hand-polished bridges reveal the manufactured movement and a second counter at six o’clock. The architectural and geometric openworked bridges are designed for watch lovers to admire the entire mechanism. With the function of a seven-day power reserve, the Vanguard Yachting Gravity Skeleton showcases a fusion of performance, reliability and horological innovation. Franck Muller was founded in 1992 by Muller and watchmaking specialist Vartan Sirmakes

New take on the jumping hour
Hautlence adds a new calibre to its collection, featuring an idiosyncratic reworking of the jumping hour mechanism that introduces a new time display principle. HL Newton uses a system based on gravitational force, indicating the time only when required and entering a mechanical standby mode when the passing minutes are of no interest to the wearer. A central wheel, skeletonised in the form of the famous Moebius symbol, drives the blued minute hand, which is tipped with a white arrow. While the hours and minutes follow their trajectory, a mobile central flange, in contrasting blue DLC coating, features the minute track numerals and a window that displays the time when desired by the wearer. When the wrist is in a random position, the time is not visible and the minute track is out of phase with the minute hand’s travel. This is Hautlence’s mechanical version of the sleep mode found on connected watches.

Flying solo
Once part of the Jonas Brothers band, Nick Jonas has carved a successful career as a solo artist. This was evident in the 2016 release of his album Last Year Was Complicated, which became his highest-peaking entry as a solo artist on the Billboard 200 chart; the lead single was a top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. On May 21, Jonas appeared in the season finale of American Idol in a nero cotton jacket and chamomile/nero cotton shirt from Bottega Veneta’s spring/summer 2018 collection and nero trousers from its early fall 2018 collection.
