SINGAPORE (May 18): Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced Friday that regional wing SilkAir will be merged into SIA after undergoing significant aircraft cabin upgrades with investment of more than $100 million.

Expected to commence in 2020, the upgrades will see SilkAir’s aircraft cabins fitted with new lie-flat seats in Business Class, and the installation of seat-back in-flight entertainment systems in both Business Class and Economy Class.

The merger will take place after a sufficient number of aircraft have been fitted with the new cabin products, SIA says in a statement on Friday.
