Singapore's factory output grows 13% in April, marking second consecutive month of growth

SINGAPORE (May 26): Singapore’s factory output staged a 13% surge in April, making this the metric’s second consecutive month of growth. The increase follows the 16.5% growth posted in March, and comes from a surge in biomedical manufacturing amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Excluding the biomedical sector, output tanked 3.5%, according to data released on May 26 by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), a government agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, manufacturing output increased 3.6% in April – a significant deviation from the 21.7% surge seen in March. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, April’s output was up 4.8%.
