An obscure businessman born in Malaysia is now a major figure in a US$6 billion ($7.8 billion) scam in America. Patrick James, founder of First Brands, is an auto-parts tycoon who was born in Kuala Lumpur in 1964.

Though he is listed as a billionaire, James is little known in either Malaysia or the US. He could walk into his own shareholders’ meeting without being noticed.

James was educated by the De La Salle Brothers. He went to the College of Wooster, a liberal arts college, in the 1980s. The institution is famous for producing educators and not corporate leaders.
