I call myself an SG60 baby — or at least that is what I tell people. After 15 years in Singapore, I finally naturalised and became a citizen. This year, I officially became a Singaporean.

Before moving here, crossing the Causeway always felt like a big deal. Not because of the distance — it is less than an hour by flight — but because Singapore always carried a sense of order and ambition that felt miles away from Kuala Lumpur’s familiar chaos. It was where things worked. Where trains ran on time and applications were processed without mysterious delays.

So I stayed. University led to job offers, and job offers became a career. I’ve never worked in Malaysia. I visit family often, but my adult life has been built entirely in Singapore. This country, in all its precision and pragmatism, has shaped who I am.
