Last month, my sons and I went to Chinatown to check them out. We were fitted with handsets made by Oculus. The headsets resembled the equipment that deep sea divers use. It had a wide-range goggle and a gadget linked to the hands.
Singapore’s oldest district is bustling with a new technology. Chinatown was founded in 1843 as a sanctuary for Chinese immigrants. It is full of shops that time has forgotten. The district has shops that sell company stamps and vinyl records.
Today, Chinatown is also littered with virtual reality (VR) centres. These VR centres range in size from small kiosks to gym-sized outlets. These establishments are a window to the brave new world of the metaverse.
