Students from universities and polytechnics in Singapore can test their business analytics skills in the Huawei-NUS Innovation Challenge, which will kick off on February 9, 2023.
The challenge will see participants working in teams of four to six to build a stock trading model based on historical transaction data that allows users to “buy low, sell high” at the best timing. They will be provided with ModelArts, Huawei Cloud’s one-stop AI development platform to rapidly build, train, and deploy models anywhere – from the cloud to the edge.
The winning team will walk away with a Grand Prize of $10,000, while those in second and third places will walk away with $5,000 and $3,000, respectively.
Students can visit https://www.sg-innovationchallenge.org/ for more details on the competition and to register their interest.
The Huawei-NUS Innovation Challenge is jointly organised by the National University of Singapore Business Analytics Centre (NUS BAC) and Huawei International, in partnership with Audaque Data Technology.
“We are happy to team up with Huawei to encourage participants to develop transformative ideas with AI and cloud technologies for the finance industry. We are pleased to announce that this year’s competition -- which was previously only for NUS students -- will be open to students from all universities and polytechnics in Singapore. This makes way for more knowledge sharing and collaboration amongst students from different educational institutions, which could lead to greater achievements,” says Associate Professor James Pang, Co-Director of the NUS BAC.

Zeng Xingyun, president of Huawei Cloud Apac, says: “We are proud to collaborate with NUS BAC on this Innovation Challenge. To achieve our goal of becoming one of the most comprehensive cloud service providers in the region, we will continue to tap on partnerships such as this to cultivate and nurture local talents that are agile, data-driven, and results-oriented. We believe this will empower a generation of developers with fresh perspectives and mindsets to build a robust ecosystem, while creating shared values for global partners and customers.”
The Innovation Challenge is part of Huawei’s Tech4City initiative, which the company launched in 2022 to empower Singapore youths from institutes of higher learning to propose fresh, creative and innovative solutions using cutting-edge technologies to build a sustainable and liveable Singapore of tomorrow.
The Tech4City Competition 2023 is expected to kick start soon.
