More than 3,000 Singaporeans have been equipped with in-demand 5G skills – such as cloud computing, data analytics and software development – through the TechSkills Accelerator (TeSA) initiative over the last year.
To build on this, a new Singapore 5G and Telecoms Academy (5G Academy) training portal was officially launched earlier today.
The portal includes more than 500 courses from various Institutes of Higher Learning, and more training options with other training providers and industry partners will be continuously added to the portal.
“5G is the next bound of mobile technology that underpins our digital economy. It offers many good job opportunities and… I hope to see more Singaporeans seizing these opportunities, and join us in building Singapore’s digital future,” says Lew Chuen Hong, chief executive of Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA).
As part of the TeSA initiative, the 5G Academy was formed in November 2020 to equip Singaporeans with 5G skills.

Led by Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and the National University of Singapore (NUS), the 5G Academy works with the Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), Mobile Network Operators and industry partners to aggregate hiring and training requirements from the 5G ecosystem.
To further accelerate the development of 5G industrial use cases in Singapore, SP has also launched a 5G & AIoT Centre together with Singtel and Ericsson.
The new centre offers a 5G Learning Journey, which provides companies with an experiential learning environment to understand how 5G can be used innovatively to create products and services or improve existing ones.

Companies that are keen to develop proof-of-concept solutions can also consult technical experts at the centre for the development of their 5G products and services.
“The launch of the 5G & AIoT Centre and the Singapore 5G and Telecoms Academy are exciting strategic initiatives that will expand the 5G ecosystem talent pool as we prepare our students and adult learners with the capabilities and skills to contribute to Singapore’s nationwide 5G rollout and grow our digital economy,” says SP’s Principal and CEO, Soh Wai Wah.
