Gwee told The Edge Singapore that her foray into TikTok livestreaming was accidental. She had shuttered her café due to health crises in her family and decided to give TikTok a try in late 2024 after a mentor recommended the platform to her.
TikTok continues to draw live sellers in a post-pandemic world
Before Covid-19 hit, former café owner Christina Gwee says she never imagined she would be making a living online. Today, the small business owner is better known for her online persona, “Aunty Jin”, Gwee’s alter ego boasts 7,500 followers on TikTok, where she touts food recipes and hawks beauty products as well as household appliances.
