Here’s how Frasers Centrepoint Trust is upgrading and enhancing its suburban malls to stay attractive in the face of rising competition from JB, with the launch of the Rapid Transit System

As Frasers Centrepoint Trust’s (FCT) 20th anniversary approaches, Richard Ng, CEO of Frasers Centrepoint Trust’s manager, is prepping his malls with several asset enhancement initiatives (AEIs) just as Singapore adds a third link with Johor. The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) is scheduled to start operations in December. On Feb 5, the first RTS train pulled into Woodlands North for scheduled demonstrations.

Ng is unfazed. Under his leadership, FCT has reduced the portfolio’s dependence on a single dominant mall by expanding it to nine malls, with at least four dominant malls. Causeway Point, as its name suggests, is two stops away from JB Central at Bukit Chagar. NEX is connected to the Serangoon MRT Interchange; Waterway Point is connected to Punggol MRT Station; and the North Wing and South Wing of Northpoint City are connected to Yishun MRT Station.
