Evolve MMA
If you are looking to pick up a new sport, learn self-defence skills or just stay in shape, then Evolve MMA is just the right gym for you. Evolve offers a wide range of martial arts disciplines, including Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, wrestling and no-gi grappling. It is also home to a professional fight team that competes in various international tournaments such as the UFC ONE Fighting Championship.
Evolve boasts a stable of instructors who are champions in their chosen discipline, including Angela Lee, winner of the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight title. Instructors are world champions with years of experience in the ring, so you will be in good hands. Classes begin as early as 6.30am and as late as 10.15pm. Students are issued progress cards so that instructors can monitor their progress and determine whether they are ready for the next level of training. You will be issued a certificate of achievement whenever you make it to the next level, in addition to any belt or band upgrade.
It is never too young to get fit or learn martial arts at Evolve. The gym has a dedicated children’s programme, and the youngest member is only four years old. Looking to work up a sweat on the weekend but worried about leaving your children at home? Unlike most gyms, Evolve has an open-door policy towards children. The lounge comes equipped with computers, and children are welcome to make themselves feel at home while Mum or Dad works out.
Ritual Gym
The busy CBD worker is often pressed for time and works irregular hours. Those who lament the lack of flexible workout classes will find the solution in Ritual Gym. Ritual calls itself the “30-minute gym”: The actual workout lasts 20 minutes and the remaining time can be spent washing up or sipping a post-workout drink at the adjoining bar.
Workout sessions are held every 30 minutes and participation is limited to 10 individuals a session. New members must undergo a 45-minute personal assessment with a certified instructor to determine their level of fitness and to provide them with a brief overview of the workout movements offered.
Unlike other gyms, Ritual is a HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training)-specific gym, so do not expect to see the usual gym equipment. You can book a session via the app and, if you cannot make it for a session, just cancel and choose another slot. Ritual has also introduced a waitlist. If someone cancels before your notice period expires, you are in.

Pure Fitness
Conveniently located in the heart of the CBD, the spanking-new Pure Fitness outlet at Ocean Financial Centre is a dream come true for fitness enthusiasts looking to clock in a serious workout. The gym has dedicated sections for weight and resistance training and a turf area equipped with gymnastic accessories and tools that help improve speed and agility. The strength zone is stocked with kettle bells, keg barrels, Bulgarian bags and battle ropes.
The gym has a wide variety of group fitness classes such as BODYPUMP, BODY COMBAT and yoga. It offers unique workouts such as the Real- Ryder — think spin class, but more tactile and dynamic. Unlike a typical spin class bike, the handlebars of the bikes in RealRyder classes are not locked in, which allows for a wider range of movements.
Pure Fitness also offers Fitness On Demand virtual classes, which offer the flexibility to join without pre-booking a spot or waiting for a scheduled class. The gym closes at midnight from Mondays to Saturdays, so executives who have to clock late nights at the office can still squeeze in a workout after hours. Workout attire is provided for members, and changing rooms are fitted with vanity counters.
