The 1948 elections in Singapore are a distant memory. Not many of the voters have survived.

It was the first election for the Singapore legislative council. The territory was in the firm grip of colonial rule. The city was recovering from World War II.

Voters had to be British subjects. Only one-fifth of the 1 million people on the island were eligible. The turnout was just 2%.
