Amid ongoing debate over whether the global rush to build artificial intelligence (AI) data centres could lead to oversupply, Fitch Ratings believes Malaysia’s sector may be better insulated than many assume.

Much of the debate has centred on whether demand for AI can support the billions of dollars being invested in new data centres.

Sajal Kishore, Fitch Ratings’ head of Asia-Pacific infrastructure and project finance, says investors should look at where the facilities are located and whether they can serve and meet cloud-driven demand if the current fierce-paced AI demand slows.
